Now on the Harver platform: the ability to rename competencies according to your organization’s unique terminology.
At Harver, we know that no two organizations speak the exact same language—especially when it comes to talent. While our science-backed competencies provide consistency and rigor across assessments, we understand that many customers use their own competency frameworks or internal naming conventions.
To make it easier for teams to adopt and use the platform, we’ve introduced a powerful new feature: Custom Competency Naming.
Why Rename Competencies?
Many of our customers told us that Harver’s default competency names didn’t match the language used internally in their HR systems, learning platforms, or performance reviews. This often led to extra explanation, friction during adoption, or confusion among hiring managers.
With Custom Competency Naming, Harver Admins can now rename competencies and definitions across all supported languages—streamlining workflows and ensuring greater clarity at every stage of the hiring process.

Real-World Example: Branding in Action
Let’s say Harver’s default competency is “Customer Focus,” defined as:
“Demonstrates a strong commitment to delivering excellent service and meeting the needs of customers.”
A large retail organization might already use the phrase “Guest Experience” in training, onboarding, and performance reviews. To create a smoother experience across their hiring ecosystem, they could rename:
- Customer Focus → Guest Experience
- Definition → “Puts the guest first, delivers friendly and personalized service, and ensures every shopper leaves satisfied.”
They might also update additional competencies to reflect their brand tone and culture, such as:
- “Accountability” → “Own It”
- “Collaboration” → “Team Spirit”
This kind of alignment helps new hires and hiring managers immediately recognize the values and behaviors that matter—without needing a translation guide between internal and Harver language.
What This Affects
Renamed competencies will automatically appear in:
- Candidate Detail Page
- PDF Reports
- Interview Guides
- Development Reports
Wherever you see a Harver competency in a candidate-facing or hiring manager-facing document, your custom names will now be reflected. Competency names will not be updated in the Administration Panel or Matching Indicator Setup. This ensures that your internal People Science and implementation teams still have access to Harver’s standardized references behind the scenes.
How to Set Custom Competencies: People Science Partnership
To ensure consistency and alignment with your talent strategy, we’ll help you work with your Harver People Science partner when defining custom names. They can help map Harver’s proven framework to your internal language without losing the rigor of our predictive assessments.
We’ll also ensure your customized names will work with in established guidelines.
- Custom competency names are short, up to 75 characters
- Competency definitions are accurate and the length is less than 500 characters
- Names and definitions are translated across core supported languages, including English, Spanish (LATM & EU), French (CA, BE), Portuguese, German, Japanese, Korean, and more
